Ernie’s story
I was born at Lake Forest hospital in 1974 while my parents lived in Aurora, IL. My father was an Air Force MP in the Vietnam was. where he became a UAW machine operator at Caterpillar.
At 5 years old had desire to be an elected official to help as many people as I can. Those values hold true today. In 1983 my father was laid off because of the failed Reaganomics. Due to the lack of jobs my father had to get a minimum wage job. We relied on Food Stamps (SNAP) and Government assistance to get by. Although it was a struggle it was a very humble experience that I never forget.
We moved to Sandwich in 1984 due to the cost of living was cheaper there. As soon as I got a part time job my checks were donated to my parents to pay the bills. My dad was called back to Cat in 1992. In 1993 I got my first full time job at Aurora Bleachery after a year I became the youngest lead (19) in their 120-year history. I then worked at Henry Pratt for 5 years before being promoted to management.
After getting laid off during the 2004 recession I joined the Montgomery FD where I was a Firefighter/EMT and took paramedic school while working my fulltime management job.
I have succeeded in everything I do but my passion from when I was 5 was there still there so I now have a new mission which is to be your champion in Springfield.
